Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to plan for and navigate the extraction or breakout of logs to the landing in a forest or forest farm setting. It requires the ability to direct choker setters, transmit signals to the yarder operator and assist with line shifts for cable logging operations.The unit applies to job roles for monitoring log recovery including Rigging Slinger.Licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit in some states & territories at the time of publication, and may differ according to jurisdiction. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following resources must be made available: organizational policies and procedures relevant to monitoring log recovery cable systems yarder and anchors rigging equipment for log recovery signal system equipment personal protective equipment suitable for log recovery activities work plan for log recovery activities with specific instructions for the work site applicable state or territory code of practice template reports for recording breakout process and equipment faults a team of choker setters and yarder operators with whom the individual can interact. Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting. Assessor requirements Assessors must: hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence. |
